UH GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS ALUMNI GIVE BACK

TOP HOUSTON DESIGN STUDENTS RECEIVE $15,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS AT ORIGIN-SPONSORED UHGAP MAIN EVENT.

HOUSTON—November 18, 2008—On Tuesday, October 18th, graphics communications professionals and students from across Houston packed the River Oaks Theatre for the University of Houston Graphic Alumni Partnership’s (UHGAP) Main Event. Origin joined fellow corporate sponsors, Signature Media Solutions and O-K Paper, to underwrite the event and award $15,000 in scholarships to top UH design students.

“There is a tremendous amount of talent in Houston, a lot of which comes from the UH Graphic Communications Program, said Jim Mousner, Origin Principal and UHGAP President.  “Origin and UHGAP are happy to be able to give back by investing in design students’ futures through scholarships and by being able to bring students and professionals together.”

The event featured music by a local DJ and gave students the opportunity to hear from distinguished UH alumnus Brain Diecks.  Diecks, a 1991 graduate of the UH Graphics Communications program, is an award-wining broadcast designer and creative director who spoke to former and future graduates about broadcast and motion graphic design.

“As a UH graduate I know that these students have a lot to offer and I want to encourage them to make the most of their educational opportunities,” said Diecks.  “I am grateful to UHGAP and their sponsors for creating this partnership between students and professionals which has allowed us to give back to the student community.”

Origin Principal Jim Mousner joined with fellow design professionals to establish the University of Houston Graphics Alumni Partnership.  UHGAP raises funds and awareness for the University of Houston’s Graphics Communications Program.  A key focus of the organization is to attract and retain the most talented students and faculty from across the country to Houston.
